Kelly and Adam met because of a good wing[wo]man … Adam’s sister, Emily! Emily and Kelly became fast friends while at Iowa State University. It wasn’t long till Kelly met the whole family, including Emily’s handsome brother … And from then on, Adam and Kelly often enjoyed dates around Ames. That’s why when Adam surprised Kelly, he got down on one knee right in front of Thumbs, where they had their first date 4 years prior.
Kelly knew she wanted a simple elegance to her wedding, using warm white, flowing taupe bridesmaid dresses and greenery. The Temple for Performing Arts was just the place to inspire that classic style, the natural marble texture of the building quickly became another element that was inspiration for the couple’s stationery.
Kelly and Adam used wedding professionals whom they had a personal connection with whenever possible. Their officiant, pianist, makeup artist and stylist/designer were all close friends. Everyone was excited and joyful to help, which meant a lot to the couple.
Alex Jimenez of Catering DSM lead the catering and planning at the Temple with ease. Since Kelly and Adam wanted to have both the ceremony and reception there, he made sure the entire day, from getting ready to last dance, ran smoothly.
Alesha Burgraff of TandemHart took the day on with thoughtful creativity. “She allowed us to be hands on with our font and stationery choices, floral arrangements and little details; yet without us even realizing, she pulled together elements and logistics to make the process stress free,” Kelly told Heartland.
Kelsey Sutton was the couple’s rock star photographer. “She helped captured so many gorgeous photos that bring back clear memories of the day,” Kelly said. A few days before the wedding, she brought a note and beautifully framed engagement photo to the couple as an early wedding gift. “It was such a special touch.”
The night was full of special moments; from Kelly and Adam’s first look right outside the Temple’s doors, to the entire crowd swaying in a circle while the band played Billy Joel’s Piano Man. It was more amazing than the couple could have ever imagined.
Kelly tells us, “Enjoy the entire planning process. Look at it as your first big adventure together of your soon-to-be married life! And if you’re changing your last name, make sure to sign your marriage license with it too …”
