Ali and Damon met at a tailgate at Iowa State long before they started dating. That day, Damon, a songwriter and musician, started writing a song he called “Ali, Ali, Ali”, though it had no ending. Even throughout their four years of dating, the song was never finished. One night, on their way to what Ali thought was her brother’s annual holiday party, Damon surprised her with a movie-style proposal.
The moment that Ali will never forget began with an empty house, romantic lighting and champagne. Ali knew what was about to happen when Damon serenaded her with the song he had started so many years before. With their puppy in her lap and tears in his eyes, Damon finished his song and asked her to marry him. Ali was “over the moon to say ‘Absolutely!”

Ali and Damon were lucky to work with great Iowa Wedding Vendors. They spent many nights sorting through vendors on the Internet to find the ones that would best suit their big day. In the end, word of mouth and personal recommendations became the way they selected a majority of their vendors. Ali’s recollection of the process of choosing vendors was that “things seemed to ‘happen for a reason.’ Something wouldn’t work out, then a new vendor we hadn’t heard of would come along and it couldn’t have been a better fit.
During the planning process Damon and Ali wanted to make sure their wedding reflected both of them, as well as their family and friends. They wanted everyone to feel as though they were “floating,” similar to how they had felt since they first met each other so many years ago. One of the most endearing parts of the beginning of their lives together was that Ali, Damon, and their parents planted a beautiful tree to pay tribute to the passing of their grandparents. “We really tried to cultivate a sense of romantic magical bliss from everything from our ceremony all the way through the reception.”
