Alex and Alexis were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend and although it took Alex two weeks to call, they have been inseparable ever since. When Alex decided to propose to Alexis, he decided to incorporate part of a trip they had taken to South Korea a few years ago.
South Korea has “love lock trees” where people in love place padlocks, similar to the “love lock bridge” in Paris, to show their love for each other. You are suppose to throw the key away when it’s locked to forever symbolize your love. But the couple had other plans. They took the key back to Des Moines with them and two years later Alex took Alexis to the Court Avenue Bridge, where they threw the key off together, right here in Des Moines. As soon as that happened Alex got down on one knee and forever locked in his relationship with Alexis.
When Alexis started planning the wedding she wanted to have something soft and romantic, but she made sure to add a few of her and Alex’s favorite things. They had grilled cheese stations, an ice cream truck and of course their dog Bentley all a part of their wedding. She chose her vendors through word of mouth, with the cake tasting being her favorite part of the planning process.
During the wedding her favorite moment of the day, although there are so many to choose from, was the first look. It was the only time that day, they got to spend just the two of them and of course the photographer caught the special moment. Alexis’ biggest piece of advice when it comes to planning your big day is, “Just breathe. If something doesn’t go as planned no one will notice. Enjoy every moment, because it does go by in the blink of an eye. This is the only time in your life where you will have everyone you love in one room and that feeling is absolutely incredible.”
